How?

Human security recognizes the interlinkages between peace, development and human rights, and equally considers civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights. Working through climate change-health and nutrition strategists and practitioners and a human security lens, Leander-J strengthens the resilience of communities. We help governments and communities solve problems in ways that are proactive and inclusive so to strengthen local capacity to respond to current and emerging threats.

Why?

Adapting to already unavoidable climatic change is essential to prevent further environmental degradation, safeguard livelihoods, protect human health and mitigate insecurity. Using human security concepts, Leander-J works to mitigate climate change-health and nutrition pressures.

Human security is built on four principles:

  • people-centered

  • comprehensive

  • context-specific

  • prevention-oriented

So?

As climate change accelerates, its impacts exacerbate existing social, economic, and environmental challenges in many contexts, which can contribute to insecurity at local and regional/global levels. Security concerns linked to climate change include impacts on food, water and energy supplies, increased competition over natural resources, loss of livelihoods, climate-related disasters, and migration and displacement.

Through local ownership, Leander-J identifies and develop solutions to mitigate climate change challenges impeding health, nutrition, livelihood and dignity.
