MED 2019, 5th Edition of Mediterranean Dialogues 3-5 December 2019
Rome, Italy: MED – MEDITERRANEAN DIALOGUES is the highest annual initiative organized by the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI) on the Mediterranean area. Its aim is to rethink traditional approaches to the region, complementing analyses of current challenges with new ideas and suggestions and to draft a new “positive agenda”, addressing shared challenges at both the regional and the international level.
First launched in 2015, MED has become the global hub for high–level dialogues on the broader Mediterranean engaging prominent leaders of Mediterranean governments, business, civil society, media and academia.
Rome MED builds upon four pillars: Shared Prosperity, Shared Security, Migration, and Civil Society and Culture. Debates on these topics are intended to complement analyses of current challenges with new ideas and suggestions to scale-up economic cooperation, overcome regional rivalries and conflicts, and ensure that adequate incentives for sustainable development are set in motion.
Leander-J participated at MED, where high level figures were speaking, among MFA’s of the Mediterranean basin; the Nobel Peace Prize recipient and Yemeni Journalist, Tawakkul Karman; and the Italian Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte. We engaged in many sessions and fora, discussing with the participants about the future of the Mediterranean human security, including topics of migrations and human trafficking.
